About Me

A little about me…I have been photographing for many years (let’s not count exactly how many) and realizing that I absolutely can’t imagine doing any other sort of work for the rest of my life, I went to school to study the technical aspects of photography. I was accepted to the the world renowned Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara and in Ventura. I started there in the photojournalism program, but after a year I knew that the blood-and-guts world of photojournalism was not for me. I changed programs and found my true calling, Portraiture. School was great, and I met lots of very, very talented people and learned more than I could have imagined. When I graduated, I was working for another studio in town, and gained even more “real world” experience there. I was the manager of the studio, and realized that I really should be working for my self, and putting my energies and my creativity into my own business, and with that, here I am, Julia Varga Photography- The Art of Life.

 When I get the chance to do some of my personal work in photography, I love to photograph flowers, landscapes and nudes. I had a great class in school from an amazing teacher, Joyce Wilson, who taught me alternative processes in photography, like using the old Polaroid cameras, and using the old developing processes (like the sun) to make wonderful images. I do incorporate these processes into my client work as well, and I think these images are wonderful and really unique. I love to create one-of-a-kind images by hand, don’t get me wrong, I love Photoshop and working on the computer; but there’s nothing like getting your hands dirty and really creating some wonderful images.
